This document summarizes the results from the Windows Server 2008 R2 Hardware Assessment. The accompanying Excel workbook includes a series of worksheets that provide basic information about the servers in your environment including an assessment of Windows Server 2008 R2 readiness, system hardware details, hardware devices discovered on computers, driver availability, discovered applications, and virtual machine inventory.
This assessment will require a consultant to visit your organization and do the assessment, as Windows server 2008 R2, which supports, BranchCache, VPNReconnect and Direct Access in combination with Windows 7, is only available for as a 64 BIT OS. Current technology do not allows us to use 32 bit Windows Server software used on the current machines to be inventoried properly using scripts.
This normally can be done in 5 Days provided physical visit to all the server is possible within the first 3 days.
Windows 2008R2 will be required in case you want to use the features like BranchCache, Direct Access or VPN Reconnect. Windows 2008 do not support these features, unfortunately.
